  • My Choice is Always Character Development Over Peace

Complete confidence is the trigger point of every bad decision. It is about the quiet confidence wherein you sit and think, my growth has happened more as a person. This is because the learnings from mistakes have happened. The confidence made me feel that my emotional maturity has increased. This made me reach a conclusive statement that I cannot be tricked by life anymore.

And turns out I was totally incorrect. It was the evening of a random Tuesday. The two choices presented to me by life felt almost like an insult. There was an uneventful and quiet future on one side. This results in a better night’s sleep with dignity intact. You don’t need to explain to people around you alot and life is free from emotional plot twists, embarrassment, and complications.

While the other aspect of choice is the harmless-looking decision. But this type of decision gives you days and nights of replaying the situation in a better way. One day the future, you will scroll through old pictures and realise the decision that causes everything to fall apart. The conversation with a friend had ended for me weeks ago with no drama, no hatred, and no romance. It just faded off with a lack of interest. This type of climax is usually acceptable to normal people. But me being exceptional, was thinking and typing multiple sentences as an attempt to restart a dead conversation.

This felt more like a negotiation with my own dignity for a hostage. My brain started with the pitch of why this is a bad idea and needs to be dropped immediately. Logical reasons by the brain where they have never tried to revive the conversation, and there’s clear disinterest. However, my curiosity said something else. What if they were waiting for me to text and would be happy to hear from me? What if I am just being pessimistic about a story that can have a rather cute climax? This was the beginning of the damage. By now i was considering a huge and rare possibility and not just a text! And in comparison to common sense, the consideration of possibility is difficult to resist.

So I ended up sending the message in a desperate attempt to have a cute conversation. This was followed by immediate 4-stage grief, including panic, denial, regret, and additional panic. I started checking if it’s socially acceptable to unsend the message or if it will make me look more dumb. This is followed by the dread and the desperation for the revert. Every notification sound gave me a mini heart attack. I felt I should change the notifications of shopping apps to something different from the messaging apps. I realised that the choice of exchanging peace for panic was a voluntary choice made by me.

There is a thing about bad decisions which no one tells, you never really make bad decisions that seem good but seem interesting. At midnight these interesting possibilities become even more attractive. Today years later i don’t even remeber what the reply to my message was. But i clearly remeber the feels of panic, regret, and grief. Apparently the development of charater by life has no trained adult supervision!

  • Decisions and Commitment Issues of Brain

While people are struggling in relationships. My struggle lies between the choice of fixing my life by upskilling or watching one more series episode.

A toxic reality show runs in my brain every evening. One thought appears to be to build a new life by learning new skills. While the immediate next thought is that I deserve some rest for a reset, the series episode will just last for 24 minutes.

And in most of the cases, the thought of the next episode overpowers the upskilling thoughts. To get out of this vicious loop, yesterday I made a perfect setup on my desk to finally start upskilling. Water bottle full! Notes ready! and Laptop open!

This type of setup made me feel that finally my life is under my control. And I started searching for the trending high-earning skills? This felt like a big life-changing moment. But then I heard TaDum! and Netflix asked me if I wanted to continue with the next episode. This feels like the better and more powerful version of procrastination.

By this point, my brain was behaving like it has a multiple personality disorder. A motivational podcast was played by one side of the brain, which is more future-oriented and responsible stating:

    1. You are in need of more discipline at this time

    2. Your future self will thank you for the decision of upskilling

    3. Vision of a longer term is beneficial

While the other portion of the brain, which is entertainment and chill oriented, kept insisting:

    1. Learning also comprises development of character

    2. Peace should be your priority you have worked enough

    3. Relax!

Valid and constructive points were made by both personalities of my brain. But by this time i felt so drained, confused, and indecisive. The laptop screen deserved a stare, as it will help me decide, and my entire future is dependent on it.

    Play Episode

    Or

    Watch a Tutorial

There is constant flipping between the tab of the series and the tab of the new course. My brain got so foggy that I started watching motivational videos in place of an actual tutorial to get into the productivity zone first. This is also considered in the terms of modern society as self-improvement. But it felt illegal not to be productive and just watch the productivity videos.

Finally, my brain created the most destructive thought,

“Before upskilling i will have dinner, and while having dinner i can watch the next episode.”

For about 96% of the time in the history of my life, this strategy has failed. After me binge watching 4 episodes of the series, Netflix asked me if I was still really watching?

My answer to this was that I am actually just surviving the battle of the choices. And post this, the deadliest thing happens, guilt being triggered immediately. It’s already sleeping time by now, and the fear of the next working day overpowers me, and I decide to overthink until I sleep. Mental productivity strategies are built, and I watched the tutorial halfway through.

Baby steps are how I will build my future, and I shouldn’t be harsh on myself. My brain portrayed as if I had accomplished something. This is the classic incident of my Productive Procrastination!

  • Why I almost cheated on my Old Chapay? Why am I dumping my New Gear?: Solumate vs Temptations

Today I spent a fortune on my new headphones. But the old, worn-out, and dusty pair of headphones came back to my memory. A story about headphone temptation!

On a random Tuesday, at 11:47 PM, I was influenced by a YouTube video reviewing headphones. My lucky oldies were working fine, but were just worn out a little. The transition to a life coach from the YouTube reviewer was drastic as he used sentences such as ‘Your productivity will be enhanced with these Headphones’ and ‘Once you use these Headphones, there is no going back’. My self-control by this time was as low as 4%.

I started my own research after this by asking AI the questions, such as:

    • Good quality headphones under ₹15,000
    • Is it worthy to buy expensive headphones?
    • Is the life expectancy enhanced with the use of better quality Headphones?

I glanced at the sight of my old headphones. They have been my companions through the phases of gym motivation, online classes, nights of sad music, and fake sessions of productivity. Yet my brain was convinced that we deserve a better bass. My brain started convincing me more with thoughts like:

    • What if tomorrow itself the old headphones stop working?
    • If the Headphones stop in the middle of a digital meeting, it would be so embarassing isn’t it?
    • Professionals do not think much in the case of high-quality audio

Then my attention shifted to a small sticky note with the checklist of study mode, overthink mode, gym mode, and music therapy. The old lucky headphones have been through it all with me. And the worn-out vibe of the oldies felt more like the character development than the damage in itself.

So what did I do amidst all this confusion? I bought the new headphones! And I cligned back to the oldies. I think the new ones are good as a backup option, just in case the oldie dies.
